Should You Pay Upfront When Selling Your Home?

October 24th, 2020

The traditional method of ‘No Sale No Fee’ has been the mainstay of estate agency for as long as I can remember. I have always been an advocate of doing a job well and to the best of my ability before getting paid for my services.

Providing a first class service, resulting in a happy vendor and buyer is the ultimate aim.

With the growing popularity of online estate agents, this traditional way of doing business has been flipped on its head, with homeowners now having the option to pay the fee upfront before the agent has even started marketing their property.

So why would you pay an upfront fee to sell what is most likely your most valuable asset?

The up side is obvious, cheap fees, but since the agent has already received their fee in advance there is little or no incentive for them to make any effort to actually sell your home, and it could ultimately end up costing you more in the long term.

At Paul Peattie Powered by eXp, I adopt the traditional ‘No Sale No Fee’ approach to my business and am only paid by results. If you use my services, your only upfront cost is for an energy performance certificate (valid for 10 years) and this is paid directly to the energy assessor.

If you are not able to proceed with the sale of your home, for whatever reason (providing you have not exchanged contracts), irrespective of the time and money I have spent on photography, 360 virtual tours, drawing up floor plans, advertising and other expenses, you will owe me exactly nothing. Zero, nada, niente, rien… you get the picture.

So, whether you are selling or letting, I’m here to help.
